Vinnie Sperrazza

Vinnie Sperrazza is a Brooklyn-based jazz drummer known for a supple, compositionally minded approach that reaches from the swinging mainstream to the freer edges of the New York scene. Born in 1979 in Utica, New York, into a family of musicians, he studied at William Paterson University under pianist James Williams before settling in Brooklyn in 2002. He co-leads the collective quartet 40Twenty with pianist Jacob Sacks, trombonist Jacob Garchik, and bassist Dave Ambrosio, and leads his own group Apocryphal, whose self-titled debut arrived in 2014. In 2023 he released a trio album with pianist Ethan Iverson and bassist Michael Formanek. A longtime musical partner of Sacks, he also works with the Hank Roberts Sextet and bandleaders including Michael Formanek and Mike McGinnis.
