Vincent Herring

Vincent Herring

Vincent Herring is an American jazz alto saxophonist and composer, widely regarded as one of the leading altoists in the post bop tradition. Born in 1964 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and raised in California, he moved to New York in the early 1980s and rose to prominence through a nine year association with cornetist Nat Adderley, also working with Horace Silver and Freddie Hubbard. His playing carries the soulful, blues rooted fire of Cannonball Adderley together with an advanced harmonic sense. He has recorded more than twenty albums as a leader and remains a busy bandleader and jazz educator.
