Sofía Rei

Sofia Rei is an Argentine vocalist, songwriter, and producer who weaves South American folk traditions together with jazz, electronics, and new classical music. A classically trained mezzo-soprano born in Buenos Aires, she sang in the Teatro Colon Children's Choir and studied at the National Conservatory before settling in New York in 2005. Singing in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, she has built a distinctive body of work, with several albums winning Independent Music Awards, and has collaborated with John Zorn, Bobby McFerrin, and Maria Schneider. She co-founded the New York arts collective El Colectivo Sur and leads her own projects from intimate duos to electronics driven sets.
