Samantha Kochis

Samantha Kochis is a Brooklyn-based flutist, improviser, and composer whose experimental practice draws on the traditions of free jazz and deep listening. Much of her work is rooted in the natural world, folding field recordings and soundscapes into her compositions and improvisations. She earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and a master's in flute performance and composition from The New School. In 2024 she released the album "to the eyes that remain soft," a set of pieces written while recovering from chronic illness, on which she plays both flute and Appalachian dulcimer. Kochis performs across New York's creative music scene, appearing at venues such as The Stone, The Jazz Gallery, and Cafe Ornithology.
