Mark Soskin

Mark Soskin is a jazz pianist long identified with his fourteen-year tenure in Sonny Rollins's band, which he joined in the late 1970s and documented on records such as Don't Ask (1979) and G-Man (1986). Born in 1953 in Brooklyn, he studied at Colorado State University before transferring to Berklee College of Music to concentrate on composition and arranging. Producer Orrin Keepnews signed him to Prestige for his 1979 debut Rhythm Vision, a Billboard jazz chart entry, and introduced him to Rollins. Beyond his own trio and quartet dates he has recorded with Joe Henderson, Randy Brecker, Billy Cobham, and Buster Williams. He teaches piano at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
