Marcus Moore

Marcus Moore is a New York violinist who moves between jazz, blues, and bluegrass, with improvisation at the center of his playing. Raised in Alabama, he took up the violin at eight through a local music opportunity program and grew up on the bluegrass that dominated regional radio, then turned toward jazz at fourteen after hearing Sonny Rollins live. He earned a B.F.A. in music from the City College of New York, where he studied with Dan Carillo, Scott Reeves, Mike Holober, and Stephen Jablonsky and played in five of the school ensembles. He has toured with the Harlem Symphony Orchestra and with Wynton Marsalis, and has performed at Lincoln Center and at the Kennedy Center as part of a Library of Congress series. He has also shared stages with blues artist Phil Wiggins, and has worked on the administrative side of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
