Lex Korten

Lex Korten is a New York pianist and composer known for a charismatic, harmonically rich approach to improvising. Born in 1994 and raised on Manhattan's Upper West Side, he spent four years apprenticing in the Detroit jazz and experimental tradition under Geri Allen, Robert Hurst, and Benny Green while earning his degree. In 2018 he took the piano chair in Tyshawn Sorey's Unfiltered sextet, and in 2020 he won first prize at the UNISA International Jazz Piano Competition in South Africa. His debut album Canopy, released on Sounderscore Records in 2025, drew wide critical praise and appeared on several best of the year lists.
