Larry Grenadier

Larry Grenadier is one of the most in-demand bassists in modern jazz, prized for a warm, deeply melodic tone and an unerring rhythmic sense. Born in 1966 in San Francisco, he became the anchor of the Brad Mehldau Trio in the early 1990s, a partnership that stretched across more than a decade of touring and recording. He is also a founding member of the collective trio FLY, alongside saxophonist Mark Turner and drummer Jeff Ballard, and his sideman credits run from Paul Motian and Pat Metheny to Joe Henderson and Stan Getz. In 2019 he released The Gleaners on ECM, a solo double bass recording that draws on both pizzicato and arco playing. His deep, supportive approach has made him a defining voice in the contemporary jazz rhythm section.
