Keita Ogawa

Keita Ogawa

Keita Ogawa is a Grammy-winning percussionist and drummer who became one of New York's most in-demand rhythm players across jazz, Brazilian, and world music. Born in Sasebo, in Japan's Nagasaki prefecture, he moved to the United States in 2005 and studied at Berklee College of Music, where percussionist Jamey Haddad mentored him and helped open the door to his American career. Around 2010 he joined the instrumental collective Snarky Puppy, with which he has won multiple Grammy Awards. His work spans a wide range of collaborators, from Yo-Yo Ma to Banda Magda, Bokante, Charlie Hunter, and Clarice Assad. Deeply versed in Brazilian and Afro-Latin traditions, he moves easily between the drum kit and a broad array of hand percussion.
