Jerome Harris

Jerome Harris is a bassist and guitarist whose supple, vocal sense of line has made him a fixture of the New York jazz scene since the late 1970s. Born in 1953, he came to wide notice in 1978 as the bass guitarist in Sonny Rollins's band, later serving as the saxophonist's guitarist from 1988 to 1994 and appearing on seven of Rollins's albums. As a leader he recorded Algorithms (Minor Music, 1986), Hidden in Plain View (New World, 1995), a set built around the compositions of Eric Dolphy, and Rendezvous (Stereophile, 1999). Equally at home on electric and acoustic bass guitar and on guitar, he has remained a versatile and sought-after sideman across the modern jazz spectrum. He is based in Brooklyn, New York.
