Jay Rattman

Jay Rattman is a New York based woodwind multi-instrumentalist who moves fluidly across saxophone, clarinet, and the wider reed family, working in settings that range from traditional and swing jazz to klezmer, big bands, free improvisation, and classical chamber music. Originally from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, he was mentored early by saxophonists Phil Woods and David Liebman before earning bachelor's and master's degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, which honored him with the William H. Borden award. He is a recipient of an ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award and has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Coachella Festival. Rattman has performed or recorded with artists as varied as Bob Dorough, Nellie McKay, Stefon Harris, and the Jose Limon Dance Company, and he plays in the klezmer band Zlek and in Phil Woods's Festival Orchestra. He also leads his own jazz quartet devoted to original music.
