Jakob Dreyer

Bassist and composer Jakob Dreyer is an in-demand presence on the New York jazz scene, a warm-toned anchor and a thoughtful writer. Born and raised in Germany, he studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory and worked widely as a sideman in Europe before moving to New York in 2014 and earning a master's degree at City College under bassist John Patitucci. He appears on more than thirty albums as a sideman and has performed at halls from Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center with artists including Steve Wilson and Tivon Pennicott. As a leader he records for Fresh Sound New Talent, with a catalog that includes the two volumes of Songs, Hymns and Ballads and the 2025 album Roots and Things. He leads his own quartet at clubs around the city, among them the Five Spot and Zinc Bar.
