Ingrid Laubrock

Ingrid Laubrock is a German-born saxophonist and composer who has become one of the most distinctive voices in New York's creative music scene. Born in 1970 in Cologne, she moved to London in 1989, studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was part of the F-IRE Collective before relocating to New York in 2008. Her music explores the borders between composition and improvisation, building dense and evocative sound worlds, and she has worked closely with Mary Halvorson, Tom Rainey, Kris Davis, Tyshawn Sorey, and Anthony Braxton. She is on the faculty of The New School and Columbia University and has received honors including the 2019 Herb Alpert Ragdale Prize in Music Composition.
