Freddy DeBoe

Freddy DeBoe is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist whose playing sits where jazz, soul, and instrumental rhythm and blues meet. He built much of his touring resume in the retro-soul world, playing with Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires from 2012 to 2017, subbing in the horn section with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, and working with Lee Fields, the James Hunter Six, Antibalas, and the Menahan Street Band. From 2008 to 2011 he was part of Eli 'Paperboy' Reed & the True Loves, contributing baritone saxophone to Reed's 2010 album Come and Get It. He grew up in Milwaukee, studied at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and took a degree at Berklee College of Music, where his teachers included George Garzone and Frank Tiberi. Under his own name he leads the Freddy DeBoe Band, an instrumental group built on his original writing and heard at New York rooms including The Django.
