Frank Basile

Frank Basile is one of New York's most in-demand baritone saxophonists, a player The New Yorker has described as a prized sideman. Born in 1978 in Illinois and raised in Nebraska, he switched from clarinet and alto to baritone, studied jazz at the University of North Texas, and joined the first jazz class at The Juilliard School after moving to New York in 2001. He has performed with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, the Christian McBride Big Band, and the Count Basie Orchestra, among many others. As a leader he has issued recordings including Thursday the 12th in 2007 and Modern Inventions in 2012, fronting his own quartet, quintet, and sextet. He is also an educator who has taught at The New School and given masterclasses at institutions including the Eastman School of Music and New York University.
