Emmet Sher

Guitarist Emmet Sher is an emerging voice in New York jazz, a melodic improviser shaped by a serious conservatory grounding. Raised on Staten Island, he found jazz at LaGuardia High School and went on to study at the Brubeck Institute, Oberlin Conservatory, and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he was mentored by Jesse van Ruller. In 2019 he took second place at the Jarek Smietana International Jazz Guitar Competition in Krakow, playing for a jury that included Mike Stern and Peter Bernstein. He has continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music with guitarist Mike Moreno, while gigging steadily around the city. He can be heard at Brooklyn rooms such as Bar Bayeux and Bar Lunatico, leading his own sets and playing in groups led by his peers.
