Emanuele Filippi

Italian pianist and composer Emanuele Filippi works in a lyrical, classically informed vein, and Enrico Rava has called him one of the best pianists of his generation. Born in 1992 in the Friuli region of Italy, he earned classical and jazz piano diplomas at the Conservatory of Udine before moving to New York for a master's in jazz piano at City College, studying there with Fred Hersch, Kevin Hays and David Virelles. He won the Italian Chicco Bettinardi competition as a soloist in 2017, a year after taking third prize at the Massimo Urbani award. His records as a leader include Polyphonies, Musica Fragile (2020), Heart Chant and Carousel (2024), the last produced by Glauco Venier. He has performed at Umbria Jazz, the Blue Note in Milan and Rockwood Music Hall in New York, and has worked alongside Seamus Blake and Fabrizio Bosso.
