Eliza Salem

Eliza Salem is a Brooklyn-based drummer, composer, and educator whose playing bridges deep grooves and swing with song forms, diasporic traditions, and open improvisation. Raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Salem came up in that region's music scene before earning a degree in jazz studies from the University of Michigan in 2021. Since moving to New York, Salem has toured internationally, including United States and Australia dates with Caroline Davis's Alula and a run in India with the Marta Sanchez trio. Salem is a member of Careful in the Sun, the project led by pianist Maya Keren, and has performed at venues and festivals including the Stone, Mezzrow, Smalls, Roulette, the Newport Jazz Festival, and SFJAZZ.
