Dennis Bulhoes

Dennis Bulhoes is a Brazilian drummer whose playing is rooted in the deep rhythmic vocabulary of Brazilian music alongside jazz and world music. Working professionally since 1998, he performed across Brazil, Europe, and Africa with artists including the accordion legend Sivuca, Maria Creuza, and Lucy Alves. In 2014 he moved to New York to pursue a master's in jazz studies at Queens College, and he went on to become a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook University. On the New York scene he has worked with Brazilian and jazz musicians such as Nanny Assis, Davi Vieira, and Rob Curto, and he is a regular presence behind the kit at The Django. A dedicated educator, he researches and transcribes the work of Brazil's important drummers, teaching Brazilian rhythmic language to a new generation of players.
