Deanna Kirk is a New York jazz vocalist and pianist whose name is bound up with Deanna's, the club she opened in the East Village in the early 1990s and reopened on Rivington Street on the Lower East Side after a fire. The room drew players including Roy Hargrove, Cecil Taylor and Eartha Kitt, and it gave her the setting for Live at Deanna's, the 1994 Atlantic Records album that carried her beyond downtown Manhattan. She followed it with Mariana Trench in 1996, which set original writing alongside Leonard Cohen and Sandy Denny covers, and Where Are You Now? on Blackbird/Elektra in 1997, and toured North America with Jane Siberry. A publishing deal with Bug Music placed her songs in television series including Felicity, Hyperion Bay and Cupid and in the film soundtracks for Down to You and Me Myself I in 2000. Born in Manhattan and raised in Freeport, Long Island, she issued Beautyway on her own label in 2002 and kept recording through Ophelia's Shoes in 2026, working the New York club circuit with her quartet.
