Dave Scott

Dave Scott is a trumpeter and composer who has been a quietly distinctive presence on the New York jazz scene for decades. An award winning player who received a National Endowment for the Arts grant in 1984, he is known above all as a writer, leading groups that perform his own music almost exclusively. His long running quintet, featuring such players as tenor saxophonist Rich Perry, has documented that book across a series of albums for the SteepleChase label, among them Brooklyn Aura and Song for Alice. He also leads a violin band that folds strings into his contemporary jazz writing. A dedicated educator, Scott teaches at the New School and Western Connecticut State University while keeping a steady presence on bandstands like Smalls.
