Daniel Prim

Daniel Prim is a drummer and percussionist rooted in the folkloric traditions of his native Caracas, Venezuela, where he trained through the country's El Sistema program at the Simon Bolivar Conservatory. His playing bridges Afro-Venezuelan folklore and contemporary jazz, a blend heard across his ensemble Daniel Prim y Su Parampampan and the collective Caracas Trio he co-founded with pianist Gabriel Chakarji and vibraphonist Juan Diego Villalobos. After moving to Los Angeles in 2013 to study with drummer Jeff Hamilton, he settled in New York City in 2016 and became a fixture of its Latin jazz scene. In 2020 he earned a Latin Grammy for his work on Ricky Martin's EP PAUSA, which won Best Pop Vocal Album. He released his debut as a leader, Home, in 2024, drawing Adam O'Farrill, Juanma Trujillo, and Manuel Marquez into a program that reimagines the party songs of his homeland.
