Curtis Lundy

Curtis Lundy is an American jazz bassist, composer, and arranger known for his robust, lyrical sound on the acoustic bass. Born in 1955 in Miami, he came up in a musical family and was discovered by singer Betty Carter, who brought him to New York at the end of the 1970s to anchor her band alongside pianist John Hicks and drummer Kenny Washington. He co-led the group Horizon with alto saxophonist Bobby Watson and has long worked with his sister, the vocalist Carmen Lundy. A mainstay of the straight ahead tradition, he leads his own trio and quartet and has recorded as a Grammy-nominated leader.
