Corey Garcia

Corey Garcia is a New York drummer known for a deep, swinging feel and a sensitive, supportive touch on the bandstand. He is a graduate of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School in Hartford, where he came up as a protege of drummer Eric McPherson and absorbed the lineage of the Jackie McLean tradition. He is a longtime musical partner of saxophonist Mike Casey, with whom he has played since their student years, most often in a trio with bassist Matt Dwonszyk. In 2018 bassist Charnett Moffett brought Garcia into his band, and Garcia went on to record Moffett's final album, the 2021 live release New Love, alongside Jana Herzen and saxophonist Irwin Hall. He is based in New York and performs regularly at clubs including Smalls and Ornithology.
