Chico Pinheiro

Chico Pinheiro is one of the leading guitarists, composers, and arrangers in modern Brazilian music. Born in 1974 in São Paulo, he was largely self-taught before earning a degree summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music, where he studied with Mick Goodrick and Hal Crook. His 2005 album "Chico Pinheiro" was named one of the year's top Brazilian records by newspapers including O Estado, O Globo, and Folha de São Paulo, and his 2010 release "There's a Storm Inside" came out in 35 countries to wide critical praise. He has been named a DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star on guitar and has performed and recorded with artists including vocalist Luciana Souza. His playing joins the harmonic depth of Brazilian song to a jazz guitarist's phrasing.
