Charles Altura

Charles Altura is a guitarist whose playing pairs effortless lyricism with a rich, atmospheric sound. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area and a Stanford graduate, he drew early notice for the precision the New York Times praised and for his long association with Chick Corea, who admired his command of both electric and acoustic guitar. He has worked widely with leading players including Stanley Clarke, Terence Blanchard, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Tom Harrell. Now a fixture on the New York scene, he leads his own groups at rooms such as The Jazz Gallery.
