Carmen Quill

Carmen Quill, who released early work under the name Carmen Q. Rothwell, is a double bassist, composer, and singer based in Brooklyn who works across jazz, improvised, and experimental music. She is known for her tone and versatility on the upright bass and for solo performances that pair the instrument with her voice. Her debut solo recording, Don't Get Comfy / Nowhere, arrived in 2020 and drew notice for its spare, emotionally direct songwriting. She anchors several Brooklyn-based groups, including tilt with Kalia Vandever, Scree with Ryan El-Solh and Jason Burger, and Citrine, and has performed alongside musicians such as David Murray, Ben Monder, Joey Baron, and Dave Douglas.
