Cameron Brown

Cameron Brown is a jazz double bassist whose career reaches back to the mid-1960s, when as a young American in Europe he recorded and toured with George Russell's sextet and big band and played alongside Don Cherry and Booker Ervin. From 1975 he anchored a series of landmark groups, joining Archie Shepp's quintet and, most famously, the Don Pullen/George Adams Quartet, whose partnership with drummer Dannie Richmond ran through the 1980s and produced some of the era's most intense post-bop. He also formed a long duo with singer Sheila Jordan, one of the defining collaborations of his career. Having appeared on more than 200 recordings as a sideman, Brown issued his first album as a leader in 2003 with his group The Hear and Now, featuring Dewey Redman. Rooted in the free and post-bop traditions, he has remained a fixture of the New York scene and a dedicated bass educator.
