Brian Floody

Brian Floody is a New York drummer working in the straight-ahead and bebop tradition, a fixture of the city's club scene at rooms such as Smalls and Mezzrow. Born in New York City in 1971, he studied timpani as a teenager with Dr. John Beck at the Eastman School of Music before enrolling at the New School in 1989, where his teachers included Jimmy Cobb and Vernel Fournier. Beginning in the 1990s he toured across the United States, Europe, South America, and Japan, performing with instrumentalists including Howard Alden, Eric Alexander, Junior Mance, Brad Mehldau, David "Fathead" Newman, and Frank Wess. As an accompanist he has backed vocalists such as Norah Jones, Diane Schuur, Dena DeRose, and Marlena Shaw. A Canopus drums endorser, he has also served on the faculty of the Brooklyn Conservatory.
