Brian Chase

Brian Chase is a drummer who moves between indie rock and the experimental avant-garde. Born in 1978, he met singer Karen O at Oberlin College and joined the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in 2000, becoming the band's drummer. Conservatory trained in jazz, he has remained active in New York's experimental scene, and his Drums and Drones project, inspired by La Monte Young's Dream House and built on just intonation tuning, has yielded records exploring the meditative resonance of percussion. He runs the label Chaikin Records and teaches at Bennington College, performing his solo and collaborative work at venues like The Stone with artists including Ikue Mori and Zeena Parkins.
