Alfredo Colon

Alfredo Colon is a Dominican-American saxophonist and composer, a New York City native who grew up in Washington Heights. A specialist on both the alto saxophone and the electronic wind instrument, he draws on Dominican folklore and the legacy of free-jazz saxophonists such as Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman, studying along the way with Lee Konitz and others. He leads his own quintet and performs widely across the city's creative music scene, from The Jazz Gallery to The Stone, and has worked with artists including Henry Threadgill, William Parker, and Aaron Parks. He has received the Jazz Coalition Commission Fund grant and a Van Lier Fellowship.
