Alex Asher

Alex Asher is a Grammy winning trombonist, producer, and bandleader based in Brooklyn whose music pushes the trombone into new sonic territory. He studied at Oberlin, the New England Conservatory, and Brooklyn College, and made an early mark with his horn section the Superpower Horns, whose arrangements for Beyonce's album 4 helped the single Love on Top win a Grammy. A two time OneBeat fellow, he has toured and collaborated with musicians across the United States and Colombia. His current project, Slow Motion, born from a pandemic era residency, pairs trombone with effects, synthesizers, and tropical rhythms, blending spiritual jazz, Latin music, and R&B into something new. He leads the band, featuring drummer Joel Mateo, bassist Michael LaValle, and pianist Julia Chen, at Brooklyn rooms like Bar Lunatico.
