Albert Marquès is a pianist and composer born in Barcelona in 1986 and based in Brooklyn since 2011. His music fuses contemporary jazz with Latin jazz and flamenco, drawing on his Catalan roots. He is best known for Freedom First, a project built with writer and poet Keith LaMar, who composed and recited his work from death row in Ohio; their 2022 album was the first ever recorded by an artist facing execution, followed by the 2025 live release Live From Death Row. Marquès founded the Ampl!fy Voices initiative to make music with people affected by state-sponsored violence and censorship, and he has worked as a music educator directing a New York City public school music program.
