Alan Broadbent

Alan Broadbent is a New Zealand-born jazz pianist, arranger, and composer, widely regarded as one of the most lyrical pianists in jazz. Born in 1947 in Auckland, he won a DownBeat scholarship to Berklee College of Music and joined Woody Herman's band as pianist and arranger in 1969 before settling in the United States. He has had long associations with bassist Charlie Haden's Quartet West and with singers from Irene Kral to Natalie Cole, and he is a two-time Grammy winner for his orchestral arrangements. He continues to lead his own trio, often with bassist Harvie S and drummer Billy Mintz.
